Golden Gate Light - Sunday November 01, 2009 06:03 pm
I love art deco and the time frame that produced it. To me, the Golden Gate Bridge is a great example of art deco that has survived the 20th century almost unchanged, including the lights that adorn her beautiful structure.

Note however, that two of the nuts and bolts on this particular light have been replaced and have yet to be painted the International Orange that covers the rest of the bridge. It is a little known fact that the Golden Gate Bridge is always being painted. This is because of the highly corrosive sea air and fog that normally shrouds the bridge. currently, they are also retrofitting the bridge with floating gaskets in an effort to make the bridge more earthquake resistant.

I noticed they are working on the Marin side of the bridge just past the vista pulloff while I was there.

Anyway, this lightpost is somewhat plain, but still beautiful, so I threw in a little trivia. Thanks for stopping by.
